If one were to ask what sound would they associate with IPL, I am sure the sound of a trumpet would go off blaring in their imagination. There is something about sporting events that evokes a visceral reaction from the audience, and acoustics play a huge role in that.

During the pandemic, some stadiums used recorded voices of the audience to keep the spirits of the sportspeople up as well. Watching a sporting event in person is an experience in and of itself. Think back to some of the most amazing sporting experiences that you have experienced, 9 times out of 10 it was a live experience.

Every sports fan loves to visit a stadium to cheer for their favorite team/player. Most people visit not just to watch a match, but also the exhilarating roar of a crowd, and the festival-like atmosphere. A truly unique atmosphere, there is a lot that goes into building the right AV Ecosystem for such a large installation.

For an example of how the acoustic setup can affect a stadium, and the experience, we think back to Wembley Stadium, arguable one of the biggest venues in the world, and site of one of the most famous concerts in the world, Queen Live at Wembley ’86, where Freddie Mercury had the entire 72,000 strong audience holding on to every single note.

Fast forward to June 2019, at a Fleetwood Mac concert at the same venue.

In certain parts of the Wembley Stadium venue, fans praised the ‘amazing’ and ‘unbelievable’ show, while for others, the sound was described as ‘unbearable’.

It prompted ‘hundreds’ of the 90,000-strong crowd, who paid up to £150 a ticket, to leave the venue early, saying it had ruined their night.

The AV ecosystem can make or break the experience of audience goers, and with so many people who will have a lasting impression of the venue, stadiums and arenas cannot afford to make any mistakes.

A stadium needs an acoustic setup that fits the size and makes the audience enjoy the game. A stadium needs an integrated system that fits into the stadium that gives a uniform experience across the entire venue, and yet should be contained to the area of the venue itself.

Many factors affect the sound system. Even just having a good audio system might not be enough especially for a stadium or place where lakhs of people congregate.

The size of the venue, the architecture, present audience, weather, equipment, and the calibration of the ecosystem.

The Q-SYS ecosystem by QSC offers an integrated hybrid approach to managing wide-area audio and paging distribution and offers software-based control for sporting venues. With thousands of fans spread across a large area, the AV system needs to be able to distribute gameday audio and announcements throughout the venue’s many zones.Q-SYS offers a simple method for AV control during matches and other events, allowing you to modify the system based on the requirements of the day.

Build on the foundation of software to best prepare for future growth. Adding new zones, features and building presets makes the system future ready no matter your plans.
